May is National Historic Preservation Month

Speaker - Michael Clem, Eastern Regional Archaeologist for the Virginia Department of Historic Resources
Topic - Mr. Clem will be discussing a Dig site dating to about
1636, the Eyreville Site in Northampton County on the state’s
Eastern Shore.
There will be a slide show and Q&A to follow. Light refreshments
will be served and Children are welcome !

Dug In Farms’ Quinn to Speak at Shiloh School on
Carolyn Quinn, owner and operator of Dug In Farms, will speak at a Shiloh School open presentation at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 1.
A Northern Neck resident since 2006, Quinn will share the fascinating history of her 155 Fleets Bay Road farm, located on Fleets Bay Road, just off Route 3 at the borders of Kilmarnock and White Stone. The property has been operated as a small family-owned farm since the early 1900s. Quinn will focus her Shiloh School presentation on the period since the early 1940s, when it was purchase and farmed by a Mr. Northern Johnson.
“An exceptional farmer, raising livestock, vegetable gardens, fruit trees, and a large family,” Quinn says of the late Mr. Johnson. Aiming since 2014 to return the land to a being self-sufficient farm, Quinn says community members “particularly those who knew and loved the Johnson family,” have been “extremely supportive” of her Dug In Farms endeavors. She’ll also explain how she arrived at the name “Dug In.”
Open Thursdays through Sundays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Dug In Farms stand over coming months is to have available winter squash (butternut, acorn, and spaghetti), pumpkins, apples, and greens such as kale, spinach turnip, and mustard greens. Quinn expects to have cauliflower and sweet potatoes available from the end of September through November.
The historic Shiloh School property is located off route 200 at the intersection of Shiloh School Road and Balls Neck. Light refreshments will be available, and the two historic school buildings will be open for visitors to see.
